Welcome to The Hicks Family Tree, a digital destination documenting the legacy, range and promise of the Hicks family. While we hope that our story never knows an end, our prayer is that this site always serves as an opportunity to learn where it started. The Hicks family’s roots are indeed deep, reaching back to colonial slavery in the early 19th century where our patriarch Joe Hicks grew up toiling in the fields under the punishing Southern sun. However, amidst the cruelty of bondage, Joe found love in Grace Stimmage, a fellow enslaved soul whose strength and kindness gave him hope. Together, they built a family which now spans over nine generations, and here we document how each one was built upon the sacrifices of the last.
